Instant Pot Honey Sesame Seed Chicken
This meal is so super delicious and very easy to make. I think once you try it, it will become a regular in your household.
The first time I made this, I didn't cut up my chicken ahead of time and followed the steps a little differently. At the end of these entries, I will tell you how I prepared it, what the differences were, and what my family thought of these changes. Hope you enjoy it!
Ingredients:
4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
Salt and pepper
1/2 cup diced onion
1 cup honey
1/4 cup ketchup
1/2 cup soy sauce
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 Tsp refrigerated Minced Garlic
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
4 teaspoons cornstarch dissolved in 4 Tablespoons water
Sesame seeds
Cut your your chicken into strips and set aside and Cut your onion into dices and set aside.
Put the chicken in the bottom of the instant pot. Either add honey, soy sauce, onion, ketchup, oil, garlic and pepper flakes in a small bowl and then pour over the chicken OR add individually to the instant pot and stir all at the end. Once fully combined, put your Instant Pot Lid on and seal.
Put the Instant Pot on Manual High Setting for 7 minutes and once finished, let rest for a couple of minutes or so before you do the quick release. (I must admit that I had an Instant Pot Fail. For some reason, I immediately did the quick release and ended up with some of the juice, of the honey sesame mixture, coming out the steam hole. Not Good!)
Dissolve 4 teaspoons of cornstarch in 4 tablespoons of water in a small bowl or cup and pour into your Instant Pot. Stir to combine with sauce. Press the Saute button and cook sauce until slightly thickened. (Shouldn’t take more than a few minutes.)
Sprinkle with Sesame Seeds and serve over Rice.
Another way to prepare the recipe:
In the initial recipe, the chicken was not cut up. If you do it this way. Put the chicken on the bottom, then combine the other ingredients in a bowl and pour over the chicken and do not stir. Next put on the lid. You would cook on High pressure for 20 minutes and you would still have a quick release after that. When you take the lid off after the quick release, you would take out the chicken and put it on a plate and cut up or shred the chicken. You would also go ahead and put the corn starch in the pot and stir and then put the chicken back in and put on Saute for a few minutes until well mixed and slightly thickened. Both taste great. My son liked this recipe better because he liked the shredded chicken. I liked the other one better because I could cut up the chicken ahead of time. Either taste great and is worth a try.
